On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Happy New Year - It's Advent I

I was drawing in church again this morning, surreptitiously, not disturbing anyone.  Demi was sleeping by my feet so I sketched my way through the Advent I sermon.

We're putting up our Christmas tree this evening, the earliest we've ever done such a thing.  I used to be a stickler for waiting until the Saturday closest to Christmas Eve, but then everyone else was buying their tree much earlier so by the time we got to the Christmas tree farm it would be closed for the season.  Then we'd get the stragglers at the lot.

Last year we gave up, went artificial, and now it doesn't matter how fresh the tree is or how liturgically correct we are.  The one advantage is that we can enjoy having the tree and the lights in the house all the way until Twelfth Night -- which means we are the last family in town to undo our tree, but I plan to be a stickler on that one now!

  1. I like this one. The pen and ink in hatching style is a bit different.
