The 48 box
When I was a kid I envied those who had the 48-box of Crayola crayons. (The next size up, 64 I think, hadn't been invented yet.) I never got those crayons.
There's a personality theory suggesting that the careers and interests we pursue as adults originate in the frustrations of childhood. Well, when it came to that 48 box, I was one frustrated kid!
I posted a question on the Everyday Matters Yahoo group and asked if anyone currently used old-fashioned crayons, whether they could be considered a viable medium. Several answered and the response was a definite YES!
So I tried. I dumped out my stash. I haven't actually bought a crayon since my kids were in school, but I seem to be a magnet for everyone else's castoffs. I have quite a few.
And then I flipped through magazines until I found something to practice on.
It works! I mean, what I don't know how to do with pencil or watercolor I don't know how to do with crayon either. But what I have learned, works there too.
I'm so excited, not only do I have every possible color available - that may not be true, they keep inventing more and I don't buy crayons - but I have enough. No more excuses, on the bleakest day I can finally bring out my Crayola crayons!

ReplyDeleteVery nice! I always liked drawing with crayons too.
ReplyDeleteWow, those'll take some using up! The cat's focus has a great intensity
ReplyDeleteThat's a cool collection of crayons - I like them cos I think in some weird way they take the pressure off.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on your cat. I like how you got just his face.
