Not just for kids
Yesterday I tried out a new project with the boys in Juvenile Hall. This hen came straight from The Usborne Book of Art Ideas by Fiona Watt which is full of great projects. I didn't know if the kids would go along with something that required them to follow directions, especially when all of them would be drawing the exact same thing. And since I haven't brought in oil pastels for several months I didn't know if they would fly either.
As it turned out, the boys LOVED this day! At the end of the hour all 16 hens were posted in the same place. Each boy had his own handstrokes, own amount of pressure, own drawing of the hen and all their own understandings of the directions. It was obvious that each one had used the same assignment sheet but the results showed quite a bit of variation. It was fun for all of us to see how different they all were even though they were supposed to be exactly the same!
I like this drawing-- do you have a picture of the ones the boys did? It would be interesting to see the different versions
ReplyDeleteLike Kathleen, I would love to see what the boys achieved. Sounds like they had fun :-)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a good life lesson for the boys. We are each unique even when doing the same things.
