Easy equals hard
The Everyday Matters group on Yahoo has been suggesting weekly sketchbook challenges for several years now. When I first discovered them I would knock one off the list every so often in random order. Some months back I decided to take this idea more seriously and dedicated a sketchbook of toned paper to the project. Using my favorite Micron pens I began to systematically draw them in exact order.
EDM challenge #4, Draw your mug, should have been a 15-minute pen and ink drawing but it took me forever and I'm still not happy with it. Drawing basic spheres, adding shadows, getting the contours accurately portrayed -- it's all there and I couldn't do it! (...big sigh...) So I have even more to learn...
Well done, Barbara!
ReplyDeleteI think your mug looks great! I love your title, I had exactly the same thought when I tried repeatedly to draw my mug too and was never happy with the result!
ReplyDeleteIt's that top oval that will get you every time. We all think in symbols and that one is a circle, even when it isn't, but what matters is the cup has character and a Lab what more could you want.
ReplyDeletekunstrxns said what I was thinking. Your mug has character! It came out nicer than you think. We want photocopies when we wouldn't be happy with it if we did get that. Might as well take a photo of it then. What we need to realize is we are going for a representation that conveys a mood or character lacking in photos. That is what you achieved.
