On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Sunday morning in Ireland

We were so fortunate to be able to worship in the National Cathedral of St. Patrick on Trinity Sunday. The service was quite beautiful with a wonderful sermon and an exquisite choir.

I wasn't sure how to go about drawing such a massive building so I started with what I could do -- the bank of flags -- and then looked around for other small pieces. And, because I was engaged in the service while I was drawing, I was taking in the words of the hymns we were singing and incorporated them into the spread. I'm new at travel journaling -- this is my first attempt -- so I was pleased overall with the result of these pages.

  1. I am enjoying the trip to Ireland vicariously through you. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this page. Glad to see you are having a great trip. Thanks for sharing!

  2. That is such a great old song. Our church doesn't seem to sing them anymore. I love the new songs but also the old ones. You did such a great job recording the feeling of this place. See, I told you you were a real artist!!

  3. I have photographs of BOTH those churches (though I think it was pre-digital...) And there's nothing better than good Anglican music in my book. Be sure to get to Trinity College's courtyard if possible, and as many quaint, colorful towns on the coast! HAVE A BLAST! (and say hello to the sheep!)

  4. Yes, the sheep, the thousands of sheep! I need to practice drawing sheep! And yes, we did get to Trinity College's courtyard -- we were there to see the Book of Kells, the REAL one!!!

Thank you again, Freebird, for all your confidence! - Barbara

  5. I absolutely love your drawings! I, too, am trying to teach myself how to draw. I've been reading your blog for months now... you've been drawing... I've been reading!! LOL! And I agree with freebird... you are a real artist!!
