Now I get it!
Every instructional book on drawing has some admonition somewhere, "Take your sketchbook everywhere." For the most part I follow that directive and do, on occasion, find a free moment and add an image while doing something else.
This morning I was picking up my daughter from Special Olympics tennis practice. I was there exactly on time -- this will just take a minute -- but the group was still smacking balls and I was in the car for about 10 minutes before my daughter jumped in. During that time I saw trees, I saw the players and I saw two lizards basking on two large rocks with interesting facets of their own. I wanted to draw but alas! my sketchbook and pencils were at home. I scrambled around the car and eventually came up with an envelope and red pencil. So... okay, I captured the image but if I had been ready I would have had several more minutes and real drawing pencils.
Good for you, Barbara! You used the tools at hand and made a wonderful drawing and a happy memory as well.
ReplyDeleteYou found something and you made a memory. You'll always remember your red drawing.
ReplyDeleteI have a grandson with severe (like at the worst end of the scale) ADHD. He has the attention problem the most and has been known to forget he has a friend visiting! I will suggest he try to sketch or doodle. He really doesn't like to draw but if he thinks it might help perhaps he'll try it. He's actually pretty good when he does draw. I saw your pictures at LTJ group and saw you drew due partly to your ADD which is why I thought I'd mention thanks for the idea for my grandson.
I'm very fond of little lizards too, Barbara. Well done for finding a way to 'capture' him - and next time you will have your moleskine, which is great!
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone -- I did learn my lesson - Don't leave home without it!
ReplyDeleteFreebird -- Yes, focusing on a journal page helps me filter out distractions so that I can concentrate on whatever I'm supposed to be doing -- especially great at lectures, church, discussions, classes, etc. I think of it as anchoring myself. - Barbara
