On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Drawing every day

I started this postcard in my watercolor class today by using my new Pan Pastels for the nasturtium bloom but I didn't have the right colors for the leaves so I used watercolor this evening to finish.

My original intention was to paint in acrylic since our class is learning how to use acrylic in the watercolor technique. I also wanted to show the instructor the Pan Pastels. In the end she said I could use them for today's work, not at all my original intention, but I did start out that way. Weird how decisions get made!

Steve and I worked on the community bike path today. We've got a real action plan these days and it's working well. Since I have chemotherapy every other Tuesday morning I started scheduling the opposing Tuesdays as bike path time. He mowed and I pulled weeds. Our section is looking better and better. I received an appreciative e-mail from the City, they are happy with us!

Demi was fine all day and behaved perfectly in my watercolor class. But this evening she's been wandering around the house like a little lost soul and I don't know what she needs. I'm wondering if she's looking for the little boy she was with, they were trained as a team and stayed together for over a year. So sad.

  1. Is your chemotherapy a forever type of thing? Does it make you sick for a while?

I just got my pan pastels. I haven't tried them out yet. For some reason, I always put off trying new things I buy till sometimes they go bad on me. It's a very bad habit but I figure the pastels will get used for sure when the second LTJC starts up.

I like your picture with it's bright colors. I feel so lazy compared to what you get done.

Poor Demi. Could she be needing more exercise? We have one dog who can't settle down in the evening unless she's had lots of running during the afternoon. Luckily with the whole desert to run in, she gets to do all the running she wants on most days.

  2. You've got PanPastels! I'm greeeeeeeeeeen with envy. As far as I'm aware, they're not yet available over here.

Have read your recent posts about using a sketchbook and I have to say that I find it difficult too ... to free myself up enough to allow anything and everything to happen in those pages. I deal with it by having several books, each for a slightly different purpose. I realise that's cheating ;)
