On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Sunday morning pastel

The homework in my pastel class this week was to draw a landscape. My heart sank, I've never done a landscape in any medium and didn't know how to start -- other than to pray and jump in. This view is over my back yard fence. Of course it doesn't look anything like this but it's the best I can do and just gives me one more thing to practice, practice, practice.

In the meantime, I've been trying to read more and finished these books in the last couple weeks. I recommend both.

  1. That's a good first try on a landscape, Barbara! I find them difficult as well. I'm always more comfortable with cityscapes!

  2. That's a great start, Barbara. I find landscapes difficult too, but keep up the good work!

If that's your first landscape, I think you did a great job. I'm just starting to get back into pastels. I loved them when I wa sin art school and I'm sure that once I figure out what I'm doing, I'll love them even more. Don't get discouraged! Keep practicing.
