On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Pastel practice

Homework for tonight's pastel class was to choose two objects with different textures and draw them. I chose a metal spoon and a leafy coleus. The hardest part for me was the color blending of the coleus. In real life there is more green on the edge and the red is a deep, dark magenta but I couldn't depict that accurately and the scanner made it even worse! But, I say, that's why I'm in class -- to learn how to do these things.

You did great on this pastel...I love your spoon. It has a rich, heavy feel that contrasts with the softer coleus leaf..
