On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Five shoes and an orange

I was winding down this evening and suddenly realized I hadn't done any drawing ALL day. That would be okay except that I've admitted that what I really want is to learn how to draw and that takes practice, practice, practice. And more practice. On a daily basis. So I sat down with a grid and drew several shoes from nearby photos and a catalog. And then I just couldn't bear to draw one more shoe -- so I ended up with an orange. These were made with a black Micron pen and Caran d'Ache watercolor pencils (which I really, really like) in my new Moleskin sketchbook. It's after midnight - already tomorrow - so can I go to sleep now?

  1. Love the grid drawings - I am addicted to my moleskine, black micron 01 (have tried .05 and have a 02 to try) and my inktense and graphitint pencils. I also like shoes and banannas!

  2. Love your shoes, and I understand your resorting to an orange in the last grid. I also love a Moleskine, Micron pen (favorite is the 005), and the Caran d'Ache pencils. It's just fun.

  4. :-) SO nice to be addicted to such healthy stuff, isn't it! You can't go wrong with a Moleskine and microns, although I've recently switched to Staedtler liners, mostly using 03, 01, and 005, only occasionally using the 05 and up. And in the summer, who can help but be addicted to flip-flops??

Love this grid drawing. I can see how you got tired of drawing shoes! LOL! Great colors. I am addicted to my pencil and sketchbooks. When I go into an art supply store I have to restrain myself from buying ANOTHER book.
