On 01.02.02, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Too late for surgery, I had chemotherapy, which failed. In May the chemotherapy was changed and I was soon in remission which was celebrated and welcome and lasted nine years - until October 2011. There was progression in 2011 so more treatment was indicated and I am now back in partial remission. But I'm not only a cancer patient - I also enjoy my family, walk my dogs and am learning to draw and paint. Life is good!

Drawing ahead

There's planning ahead and there's drawing ahead. In this case, I'm hoping to visit Ireland in 2008 and am doing some armchair traveling in preparation. I've only been drawing since May so I'm panicky about being able to keep my first travel sketchbooks in the coming months.....so decided to draw from photos as a way to practice. This is a watercolor painting of the Gallarus Oratory on the Dingle Peninsula of County Kerry, a place I look forward to seeing in person. It was fun to draw -- with simple lines I could manage -- and an opportunity to practice drawing rocks.

Very, very nice! I'm so jealous you're going to Ireland. One day I hope to visit there, and Scotland, too, but not in the near future. Fill up those sketchbooks so we can all get a look.
